Turkey-based Marmara Hotels & Residences owns The Marmara Collection. Most properties are in Turkey with an all-suite property in New York.
The Turkish-owned chain aims to increase its properties within the next decade, including additions in Turkey, but with significant growth elsewhere, including in several European cities. Some choices reflect a focus on traveling Turkish businessmen.
Marmara's first hotels included conversions and new-builds. The Marmara company owns them all, as well as a large catering business, but going forward, it expects to grow with management contracts as well as purchases for conversion and new-builds.
As to the Turkish properties, Turks today account for the largest share of guests, the chain's source markets are widely distributed, with U.S. guests about 4% of the business, mostly leisure. The group would like to attract more U.S. corporate business.
Marmara's roots are in Istanbul, where most of its hotels are located, as well as Esma Sultan, a meetings site.
