Exhibits that promise to trick the eye and twist the mind will be housed in the Paradox Museum Las Vegas, opening this month.
The 11,000-square-foot gallery will include 90 thought-provoking exhibits that explore the science of paradoxes. Guests will learn about vision, perception and the human brain amid the many fertile opportunities to also take unique photos and videos.
"Meaning 'contrary to expectation' or 'incredible' in ancient Greek, the word 'paradox' is defined as the opposite of or contradictory to common sense," said Marc Gregory Tipton, the museum's regional sales and marketing manager. "Real paradoxes are things that, if true, are false and, if false, are true. Our exhibits will make visitors think again and again about what is real as they question their own reality."
Every exhibit will be interactive and include sensory and educational experiences with facts to help explain the optical and perceptual effects.
In the Upside Down Room, for example, objects and people will seem to defy gravity. In the Paradox Sofa exhibit, visitors will be provoked to wonder if their bodies are magically split or if multiple people are lounging on the couch at once.
Appropriate for all ages and interests, the Paradox Museum will also include a boutique with souvenirs, games, clothing, accessories and gadgets. Most of the products have been curated to be educational.
Las Vegas joins two other Paradox Museum locations in the U.S. and five in Europe. More than two dozen additional locations are planned through 2024.
A special introductory price of $27 (plus tax and fees) for adults and $23 for children 4 to 11 will be available for tickets purchased in June for dates through Oct. 31. Visitors should allow 60 to 90 minutes to experience the Paradox Museum, which is located at 3767 Las Vegas Blvd. S., just north of the MGM Grand.
