Illumination's Villain-Con Minion Blast will immerse Universal Orlando Resort guests in the Despicable Me franchise when it opens later this summer, moving guests through a blaster game via a moving pathway.

The attraction, which was announced last winter, is located at the entrance to the new Minion Land on Illumination Ave. at Universal Studios Florida.

What's the storyline?

Minion Blast welcomes guests to Villain-Con, the world's largest convention for villains. Guests, aka conventioneers, are challenged to see who has what it takes to join the Vicious 6, a supervillain group featured in the movie "Minions: Rise of Gru."

Like any convention, guests will move through the trade show floor. But unlike most conventions, they then will acquire an "E-Liminator X" blaster, which can fire Freeze Rays, Banana Bombs, Explosive Nunchucks and more, Universal said. Hits result in points "to prove how bad they really are."

Villain-Con Minion Blast will feature each member of the Vicious 6 voiced by the film's original cast: Belle Bottom, voiced by Taraji Henson; Stronghold, voiced by Danny Trejo; Nun-Chuck, voiced by Lucy Lawless; Jean Clawed, voiced by Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Svengeance, voiced by Dolph Lundgren.

A first in connected gameplay

In a first for Universal Orlando, connected gameplay will be enabled through the Official Universal Orlando Resort App. Guests link their blaster to their phone to track scores, go on special missions within the attraction and unlock special perks. They can also earn digital collectibles.

"Plus, this digital experience connects to the visitor's Universal Guest Account within the Universal Orlando app, unlocking a deeper connection that enhances their in-park experience and sets the stage for even more digital-to-physical world benefits," Universal said.

The attraction was created by Universal Creative and Illumination. Guests under 48 inches tall must have a supervising companion, and infants will not be permitted.
