La Bettola Waikiki, a new Italian restaurant by way of Japan, will hold its grand opening at the Alohilani Resort Waikiki Beach on Aug. 15. Led by chef Tsustomu Ochiai, this marks the first location outside of Japan for La Bettola.

The menu puts its focus on local ingredients and seafood. Among the choices are prosciutto with burrata; the chef's sea urchin pasta with homemade cream sauce; a wagyu beef Bolognese; and pineapple gelato.

La Bettola features indoor seating with views of the 280,000-gallon, saltwater Waikiki Oceanarium, home to a large variety of colorful native Hawaiian reef fish.

"At La Bettola, it's about using the best and freshest ingredients from the land and ocean, baking our focaccia and maritozzi fresh daily out of the oven, creating unique homemade gelato, using only the finest olive oil and making simply great pasta," Hide Sakurai, co-owner & CEO of La Bettola Waikiki, said in a statement.
